Last week, we welcomed a new member to our team - Jolanta Gil. Jolanta will take over UX design & research at Maze, being our first full-time UX-focused employee.
Get to meet Jolanta in this quick interview below.
I studied Interior Architecture, Digital and Graphic Design, User Experience and Product Design at university. I was Head of Design at Good Lood, an ice-cream parlor chain. I helped introduce the brand in Kraków, which has now grown to fifteen locations. I also worked as a freelance product designer with various startups, such as the Swapp or Nalunch App.
As a designer, I was always looking for a product that I could use to analyze project goals, conduct usability testing, and understand user behavior. Maze is that product. Plus I was very excited at the opportunity of joining such a young startup and get to grow with it.
My role will focus on all steps of the design process: planning and analyzing project goals, and conducting user research and usability testing to understand user needs and behavior. I'll use that to inform new designs from wireframes to mockups, and low-fidelity to high-fidelity prototypes. Finally, I'll be working with the development team to ensure new features and the product fulfill customer expectations.
I really like spending time in nature with my dog. I also enjoy traveling and scuba diving. One of my favorite places to visit was Thailand, and I’m going to Vietnam this December. Cooking and reading non-fiction or design books is also high up on the list.
Together with my colleagues, I want to focus on changing the organizational culture surrounding UX and design. Sometimes, companies hire a UX designer but they don’t conduct user testing at all. The designer is usually only focused on creating wireframes and mockups.
With Maze, you can test at a very early stage. Once stakeholders understand the value of this, designers can make an impact on a strategic level.

Research can help uncover what user needs to satisfy rather than just tweak the design. From a business perspective, you get the data to convince product managers and other stakeholders.
Of course! Right now I’m working on consolidating the design sprint cycle and defining where in the process we’ll include Maze.
I’m very excited to be working with a group of people located all around the world. Everyone brings different viewpoints to the table and I’m happy to be in this multicultural environment. Plus working with giants in the industry such as Sketch, InVision, and Adobe is pretty cool. Getting to grow a startup is the most exciting thing!
